Posting is for two Engineer I positions that will serve as Assistant Resident Engineer in the Asheboro Resident Engineer’s Office. Position Nos. 60020627 & 60020634 will be filled from this posting, you only need to apply once to be considered for both positions. The Engineer I position will assist the Resident Engineer in providing day-to-day management and contract administration of roadway and structure projects constructed by private contractors. The positions will be responsible for the supervision of lower-level technicians. Duties will include, but not be limited to, performing project field inspections, preparing monthly/final pay estimates, creating, reviewing, and evaluating supplemental agreements and claims, ensuring compliance with both NCDOT and external environmental agency erosion control and permit requirements, resolving constructability issues, and serving as a DOT project representative for formal and informal meetings with contractors, utilities, local officials, media, and the general public. Employees hired into these positions will be expected to communicate in a clear and concise manner, both orally and in writing and will need the ability to make independent decisions using sound engineering judgment. Employee should have experience using computers and electronic tablets with SharePoint and HICAMS. Employee will be expected to apply Department safety standards and programs to operations. Employee may be exposed to hazards including construction equipment, high traffic volumes, and heights over water or traffic and will be expected to work outside in varying temperature and weather conditions. Employee will be expected to perform moderate physical activity such as walking, climbing, kneeling, and standing. Employee may need to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required. The selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle. Safety toe shoes are required.
