About The Position

The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a full-time Assistant Research Scientist position in our neuroscience laboratory. This role utilizes rodent preparations to model mechanisms and treatment targets in mental illness, with a focus on circuit mechanisms of normal brain functions and how stress and helplessness change them. The work involves neurobehavioral systems, using molecular and genetic manipulations to probe neural, cellular, and circuit function, and ultimately, behavior, depending on the demands of a given experiment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and one year of professional research experience in an appropriate field or 30 graduate hours leading to an advanced degree in an appropriate field may be substituted for the required experience.
  • Experience with handling of mice, immunohistochemistry, genotyping, stereotaxic surgery, behavioral testing, viral injections, whole-brain mapping, RNA-sequencing, microscopy, and data analysis is critical.
  • Familiarity with programming in R and Python is important.
  • Excellent organizational skills

Nice To Haves

  • Recent completion of a B.S. or B.A. in a biology, chemistry, pharmacology, or neuroscience related field.
  • At least 4 months of experience in at least 3 of the aforementioned techniques.
  • At least 4 months of experience in data analysis.
