About The Position

Under general supervision, this part-time, temporary/casual staff position analyzes clientele needs, interprets University Library & Archives resources, and facilitates their use by students, faculty, support staff, and other members of the academic community. Please note: A Presidential Proclamation issued on September 19, 2025, imposes a $100,000 fee on all new H‑1B petitions filed after September 21, 2025, and Texas A&M University–Central Texas will not pay this fee. Additionally, a moratorium issued by Governor Abbott on January 27, 2026, restricts the filing of new H‑1B petitions unless approved by the Texas Workforce Commission. Accordingly, if you will now or in the future require sponsorship for employment visa status this moratorium may affect our ability to employ you should you be selected as the final candidate. Applicants must be authorized to work for any U.S. employer.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Library Science or Master of Library and Information Science or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to providing excellent customer service.
  • Ability to take initiative.
  • Ability to move medium weight boxes, books, heavy book truck or similar items.
  • Ability to handle material which can contain dust or microscopic mold spores.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years in an academic library, public library, specialized library, archive, or other related educational setting.
  • Professional library experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates the use of library and archives resources, including the online library catalog, electronic databases, print and non-print indexes, abstracts, reference materials, and online and Internet resources.
  • Provides advanced customer service, including using virtual reference and chat support venues for library users.
  • Conducts clientele interviews to recommend effective and appropriate information resources.
  • Responds to escalated requests for assistance and more complex, non-routine resource questions as a subject matter expert.
  • Refers to sources, places, and individuals when local sources are insufficient.
  • Provides explanations and instructions for department/unit employees.
  • Provides support for a range of in-depth, specialized questions in research resources and databases.
  • Creates and edits departmental publications, as requested.
  • Analyzes and organizes operations and determines problem resolutions.
  • Provides staffing for the research help desk during evening and weekend hours as assigned.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
