About The Position

Pottsville Quarry and Asphalt is seeking a motivated Assistant Quarry Superintendent to assist with second-shift production. The role is responsible for the safe and efficient production of materials at the site, with an emphasis on safety, attention to detail, and teamwork. The Assistant Quarry Superintendent supports the Superintendent, including handling specified duties in the Superintendent’s absence, and helps ensure regulatory compliance, effective employee training, and reliable plant production.

Requirements

• Five years of related experience and/or training; a combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Basic computer skills, including internet and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel).
• Ability to fit test and use appropriate PPE as needed.
• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job, including movement and lifting as relevant.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or equivalent, such as a GED, from an accredited educational institution.
• Experience in a quarry, open-pit mine, heavy civil or road construction, or other heavy industry.
• CDL A or B.
• MSHA and/or other applicable safety certifications and training.

Responsibilities

• Perform all work according to MSHA and H&K safety policies.
• Interact professionally with DEP and MSHA inspectors.
• Ensure the site complies with MSHA, EPA, and DEP regulations and township requirements.
• Build the team through mentoring, training, and discipline, and report employee progress to the Supervisor.
• Assign daily work and assist with setup.
• Provide employees with the tools and equipment needed to complete work to H&K standards.
• Create a positive work environment and ensure the site is free of materials that could create a hostile work environment or violate company policy.
• Lead weekly safety meetings and daily huddles.
• Complete and submit required paperwork in a timely manner, and attend necessary meetings.
• Ensure all employees complete required MSHA and task training.
• Communicate regularly with the Superintendent.
• Maximize plant and employee performance to produce materials at the lowest total delivered cost.
• Schedule blasting and drilling and coordinate stripping in the Superintendent’s absence.
• Ensure products meet specifications and quality requirements.
• Identify, prioritize, and schedule maintenance needs and order plant parts.
• Serve as the H&K Group liaison to the community, customers, and other companies in the Superintendent’s absence.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
