About The Position

High Plains Steel Services is seeking a Fabrication Assistant Quality Control Inspector (QCI) to join their Quality team. This full-time role involves supporting the QCI by performing and documenting fit-up and final inspections of fabricated steel. The Assistant QCI will verify work against drawings, applicable requirements, and the Quality and Safety Management System (QSMS), identify and document nonconforming work, and collaborate with Production to resolve issues before they progress further. The position emphasizes hands-on inspection, technical growth, and accountability within a team that prioritizes quality throughout the fabrication process.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of steel fabrication experience.
  • Operational knowledge of AISC and AWS codes and practices for steel fabrication.
  • Strong experience and knowledge in fabrication production, quality, and safety.
  • Ability to read and apply fabrication drawings and inspection requirements.
  • Technical ability to use company technology required for inspection and quality documentation.
  • Ability to clearly document and communicate inspection findings.
  • Ability to pass a Visual Acuity Test.
  • Legal eligibility to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and document fit-up and final inspections of fabricated parts and assemblies.
  • Apply applicable AISC and AWS codes and practices, project documents, company procedures, drawings, and inspection criteria to determine if work meets requirements.
  • Identify and document nonconformance through the QSMS.
  • Maintain inspection records, quality logs, equipment certifications, and other documentation.
  • Communicate inspection findings to Production and assist in understanding required corrections.
  • Escalate unresolved issues to the QCI.
  • Support the QCI in maintaining inspection equipment, certifications, records, and documentation.
  • Verify required QSMS training for inspected work.
  • Assist with additional quality-control activities as directed by the QCI.
