About The Position

The Task Force for Global Health, an Emory University affiliate, focuses on building durable public health systems. The International Trachoma Initiative (ITI) is a partner in the Global Program to eliminate trachoma as a public health problem. ITI's mission is to eliminate blinding trachoma through stewardship of azithromycin donations, strengthening partnerships for the WHO-endorsed SAFE strategy, and knowledge management for the global program via the GET2020 database.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in public health or related scientific field from an accredited school.

  • Ability to understand challenges faced by national programs.
  • Ability to advocate on behalf of country programs.
  • Ability to work with supply chain teams and Ministries of Health to keep MOUs up to date.
  • Ability to ensure timely and correct delivery of azithromycin.
  • Ability to edit shapefiles using ArcGIS Pro.
  • Residency in the state of GA.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in providing disease intervention services by researching resources within countries and developing country profiles.
  • Handles data management including collecting data, maintaining databases, conducting data quality checks, and preparing reports.
  • Supports countries by researching needed resources.
  • Coordinates communications with countries/implementing partners.
  • Maintains and updates ITI databases, including National Program Coordinator contact information, status of annual drug applications, and country program information and data.
  • Prepares trachoma reporting forms and azithromycin donation requests to be sent to countries and uploads them into the database once returned.
  • Reviews trachoma reporting data submitted from Ministries of Health.
  • Tracks country submissions of trachoma reporting data.
  • Acts as a communications liaison with internal & external partners for program-specific updates.
  • Supports country data audits upon request.
  • Assists the Program Team in preparations for the Trachoma Expert Committee (TEC) meetings.
  • Provides project management and operational support for TEC book creation, including proofreading, formatting, working with printers, and quality checking.
  • May be asked to support the Operations Team with the planning and logistics of specialist meetings (e.g., regional meetings and other ad hoc events).
  • Manages Program Team meetings: sends calendar invites, prepares agendas, and takes notes.
  • Provides program-specific meeting support (logistics, catering) as required.
  • Updates and maintains project management tools (e.g., Monday.com boards, Mail Merge) to support Program Team activities.
  • Compiles information and prepares materials for reports and presentations.
  • Assists with updating, proofreading, and editing program documents, templates, reports, presentations, and correspondence.
  • Establishes priorities based on knowledge of program needs and meets associated deadlines.
  • Under the supervision of the Senior Public Health Advisor, assists with providing technical support to Ministries of Health and national programs in up to three countries.
  • Assists countries in preparing their annual azithromycin application, ensuring compliance with donation criteria.
  • Assists countries in developing and carrying out plans for SAFE implementation, including activity plans, timelines, and budgets.
  • Manages country drug requests through every step of the process, including liaising with national program coordinators and implementing partners, understanding challenges, and advocating on behalf of programs.
  • Advocates on behalf of the country at the twice-annual Trachoma Expert Committee meetings.
  • Works with ITI supply chain team and national Ministries of Health to keep Memoranda of Understanding up to date.
  • Works closely with ITI management and supply chain team to ensure the correct quantity of azithromycin arrives at the right place, at the right time, every time.
  • Assists in editing shapefiles for the global trachoma program using ArcGIS Pro.
  • Performs other ITI program-related duties as required.
  • Participates fully as a member of the Task Force for Global Health by contributing, assisting, and participating in projects, activities, and initiatives as requested by management.
