About The Position

The Public Defender's Office, 10th Circuit is seeking an Assistant Public Defender for the Appellate Division. This entry-level position involves representing indigent persons in the appellate process, reviewing and analyzing client records, identifying appealable issues, researching case law, drafting appellate documents, and advocating in appellate courts through oral arguments. The role also includes assisting trial attorneys in preserving issues for appeal and performing related duties. Remote work is available after the completion of training.

Requirements

  • Active member in good standing with The Florida Bar
  • Exceptional research, analytical, and writing skills
  • Strong computer skills including legal research
  • Ability to analyze legal documents and instruments
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with members of the staff and the appellate courts
  • Skilled in determining the proper course of action, presenting the facts and creating arguments
  • Ability to work independently and manage a busy task calendar

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred work experience of 2-10 years of experience in a related field (this can include internships and clinics for recent graduates)

Responsibilities
