This position involves preparing cases for the defense of indigent persons charged with criminal offenses. The role includes interviewing clients and witnesses, preparing legal documents, conducting legal research, and representing clients in various court proceedings such as arraignments, pre-trial hearings, trials, and dispositions. The Assistant Public Defender will also interview clients in custody to make initial decisions regarding bail, release, and mental competency, and determine the need for expert witnesses. This is an entry-level position with an annual starting salary of $75,000 and competitive raises.
