About The Position

As Assistant Project Surveyor, you will assist in the overall management and direction of projects. Responsibilities include managing projects from beginning to end, including scheduling and oversight of field and office personnel, progress monitoring, management, and reporting.

Requirements

  • Recently completed or enrolled and near completion in college education required for a Florida Professional Surveyor and Mapper’s license (PSM) under Florida Administrative Code 5J-17.021.
  • Minimum of 4 years of Surveying experience in a Party Chief or CAD Technician position.
  • Ability to obtain Florida Professional Surveyor and Mapper licensure within 2 years of start date.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD, other CAD programs, MicroStation, and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Computer skills and technical competence.
  • 2 years experience communicating or coordinating with clients on-site or in an office setting as a party chief or CAD technician.
  • Excellent client-facing and internal communication skills.
  • Outstanding written and communication skills and an understanding how to provide overall client/project management is a must.
  • Solid organizational skills, including attention to detail and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with various concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.
  • Able to deal with frequent changes, delays, or unexpected events.
  • Works with the team; contributes to a positive team environment; welcomes feedback.
  • Approaches others in a tactful manner; Reacts well under pressure; Accepts and adapts to frequent change.
  • Must be able to communicate well with clients and other project team members.

Nice To Haves

  • Surveyor in Training (SIT) or Certified Survey Technician Level IV (CST IV) desired.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting, supervising, and managing all survey activities related to conventional, GPS, and Laser Scanning surveys.
  • Creating a scope of work for all projects through client negotiation and knowledge of the project, which will define all the project details and be used as a communication tool between the Project Manager, the Field Teams, and the CAD Technicians.
  • Ensuring that the final product meets and exceeds SSMC quality standards and the Standards of Practice outlined in Florida Administrative Code 5J-17.
  • Ensuring that a comprehensive job packet for each project consists of research materials, the scope of work, a work order, and all necessary forms for field and office personnel to complete the project.
  • Developing comprehensive schedules for long-term projects that reflect the estimated time frame for completion of work based on the scope of work negotiation with the client.
  • Preparing cost and time estimates for survey proposals.
  • Providing day-to-day guidance and direction to field personnel, including feedback on performance.
  • Providing proper training and support to field staff in survey procedures.
  • Verifying that proper research is performed on all projects before being released to the field team.
  • Organizing and documenting a post-project meeting highlighting any project phases that could have been improved through organizational structure, communication with the field and/or client, estimated schedule, and a review of the job cost (estimated to actual, including a variance report).
  • Organizing project folders under your direction to be purged and ready for scanning.
  • Participating in and supporting the development of long-term goals and objectives.
  • Reading and interpreting engineering plans and construction documents.
  • Accommodating client and job site needs by responding to all inquiries promptly and professionally.
  • Occasionally working in the field performing surveying tasks.
  • Performing light office duties including but not limited to filing, making copies, and scanning.
  • Carrying out other duties as assigned by management.
