About The Position

Reporting to the Division Manager, the Assistant Project Manager supports the Project Manager in achieving project goals and objectives by planning, tracking, and reporting project activities. This role assists with all phases of a project, from proposal and planning through execution and closeout, while ensuring deliverables are met on time and within budget. The position includes regular visits to active job sites to monitor progress, address field needs, and maintain coordination between office and field operations.

Requirements

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution preferred.
  • 5 years of general project or construction experience; commercial steel fabrication experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving ability.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of change management processes and documentation.
  • Knowledge of business systems and workflows relevant to steel fabrication and erection.
  • Knowledge of the value of incremental delivery, project metrics, and progress reporting.
  • Skill in process development and project management techniques.
  • Skill in maintaining professionalism and building strong interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to read and interpret structural drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to write clear and concise business correspondence.
  • Ability to manage and monitor operations, deliverables, and schedules across multiple teams and locations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Tekla preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret drawings and contract documents.
  • Assist Project Managers and support staff in developing, updating, and monitoring project schedules, budgets, and activities.
  • Coordinate with the shop, field teams, and customers to ensure deliverables remain on schedule and meet quality expectations.
  • Formulate, organize, and track project requirements and progress as directed by the Project Manager.
  • Review and evaluate vendor proposals.
  • Set up and maintain project data and documentation in company systems.
  • Assist the PM in establishing fabrication schedules, milestones, and objectives.
  • Coordinate subcontractor activities and monitor performance.
  • Provide regular progress and budget updates to the PM.
  • Assist with preparing change orders and reviewing drawings.
  • Establish and maintain strong customer relationships through effective communication and follow-up.
  • Monitor and manage vendor performance and relationships.
  • Prepare, present, and distribute project updates to the PM, internal teams, and customers.
  • Conduct site visits to verify progress, address field issues, and ensure alignment with project plans.
