The Assistant Project Manager (APM) role involves supporting Project Managers (PM) or Senior Project Managers (Sr. PM) by managing and executing tasks within assigned projects. The APM I is in a developmental phase, aiming to gain proficiency in construction processes and familiarity with commercial construction sites. APMs provide essential support and communication for successful project completion, focusing on daily details such as relaying correspondence between field and office, ordering equipment, and managing project documentation. Their work is crucial in ensuring project schedules and goals are met, adhering to Hermanson Company's policies, ethical standards, and objectives. APMs may work on multiple projects simultaneously, with project scope varying significantly in duration and value. They also work with their manager to develop a personal development plan and build technical knowledge in mechanical and plumbing systems, building codes, and company standards.

Requirements

  • Technical skills in programs such as ACC Build, MS Office, Bluebeam Revu, D365 or similar.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Business, or Engineering is preferred, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Combination of direct trade experience and education that would indicate proficiency in performing APM I duties.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates with and supports the field, client, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Meets and develops relationships with project foremen, superintendents, customers, engineers, general contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Performs all essential duties and responsibilities in accordance with Hermanson Company standards and procedures.
  • Assists with one to multiple projects. May manage small projects.
  • Works with manager to create a personal development plan.
  • Develops a working knowledge of the local construction marketplace.
  • Develops technical knowledge on mechanical & plumbing systems, building codes & standards, and Hermanson Construction standards.
  • Maintains current plan set on ACC Build or in Project Folder.
  • Creates base procurement and submittal logs from equipment matrices and Specifications.
  • Gathers and packages submittals.
  • Issues submittals and logs them.
  • Saves and logs RFIs.
  • Processes purchase orders.
  • Tracks and updates procurement log.
  • Issues submittal, RFI, and procurement logs.
  • Coordinates journal adjustments with Project Accountant.
  • Sets up and tracks per diem/subsistence payments.
  • Collects and builds Closeout Document Package.
  • Engages with Site Safety to understand safety audit results and develop an awareness of safety on the jobsite.
  • Gains exposure to the BIM and detailing process.
  • Understands construction schedules and how they were developed.
  • Writes subcontracts.
  • Tracks and collects startup, installation verification, and pre-commissioning forms as required per project.
  • Creates Requests for Information (RFIs) as necessary, including relevant sketches. Marks up RFIs on contract documents, including plans and submittals.
  • Develops submittal packages and checks for accuracy compared to drawings and building standards.
  • Drafts equipment POs and checks for accuracy compared to drawings, submittals, quotes, and building standards.
  • Assesses drawing updates and determines if there are scope impacts.
  • Updates project budgets through budget revisions and updates change order logs.
  • Gains exposure to the basics of estimating: Quantity/Material takeoffs of engineered drawings, conceptual estimating from architectural drawings or no drawings at all, and calculating and drafting change orders as required.
  • Gains exposure in how to complete and present monthly financial reports (ECAC/stats).
  • Walks assigned projects regularly.
