About The Position

This is a rare opportunity to grow your career on one of the most consequential public health infrastructure projects in the country. The Wadsworth Center, New York State new Life Sciences Public Health Laboratory, is a $1.7 billion, 663,000 square-foot facility currently under construction. The project consolidates five unconnected sites across the Greater Albany area into a single, modern facility designed to strengthen New York's ability to detect, prevent, and respond to emerging public health threats, and is expected to be completed in 2030. Vanderweil Engineers is proud to be providing MEP engineering services on this transformative project — and we're looking for a driven Assistant Project Manager to join our team. As an APM, you'll work alongside our Project Manager and senior engineers to keep Vanderweil's MEP scope running smoothly from the field to the office. This is a hands-on role with real responsibility. You'll be embedded in a high-performing team working on a project that will shape New York's public health infrastructure for generations.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of related background
  • Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in Project Management, Engineering, Technical field or equivalent experience
  • Client facing communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with ability to prioritize and complete deadline-driven tasks efficiently.
  • Analytical thinker with initiative to learn and adapt to various client expectations.

Nice To Haves

  • Lab, healthcare, or public sector project experience is a bonus — but not required

Responsibilities

  • Support Project Managers, Engineers, Subcontractors, and field personnel
  • Contract, Scope and Quality management
  • Coordinate deliverables and design reviews
  • Review and track submittents, RFIs, ASIs, and change directives; coordinate timely responses from the engineering team
  • Attend OAC and coordination meetings; prepare and distribute meeting minutes and action items
  • Assisting with assembly of project documents, drawings, and coordinating distribution
  • Maintaining files and documentation control for both internal network and client folders.
  • Meet schedules and budgets on projects that can’t fail.
