The Department of Psychology and Neuroscience aims to provide excellent education, research, and service in its field. This involves teaching psychology and neuroscience to undergraduates, offering scientific and professional training to graduate students in various specializations (behavioral and integrative neuroscience, clinical, cognitive, developmental, quantitative, and social psychology), conducting cutting-edge research, and providing support services. The department has six programs: behavioral and integrative neuroscience; clinical psychology; cognitive psychology; developmental psychology; quantitative psychology, and social psychology. Each program is designed to thoroughly acquaint students with the theoretical and research content of the specialty and to provide training in research skills for competent and creative investigation, alongside the development of appropriate professional skills. The department is a significant recipient of grant funding, with over $12 million annually in awarded grants and approximately $20 million in annual expenditures. It hosts two large undergraduate majors (Psychology and Neuroscience) with around 2900 total majors, a Neuroscience minor, and one of the largest graduate Ph.D. programs with approximately 120 students. Additionally, the department operates the UNC Psychology and Neuroscience Community Clinic, offering therapeutic treatment and assessment services.
