About The Position

This is a 0.8 FTE (32 hours per week), 12-month tenure-eligible faculty appointment within the Department of Family Medicine, Division of Physician Assistant Studies, reporting to the PA Program Director. The position is dedicated to program responsibilities, including teaching, service, and scholarship, and is benefit-eligible. The Principal Faculty member delivers high-quality instruction, academic advising, and student evaluation while contributing to program service and scholarship. This position actively supports the mission and goals of the PA Program and participates in the design, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of the didactic curriculum in compliance with the Accreditation Standards for Physician Assistant Education (ARC-PA). As a tenure-eligible faculty member, the individual is expected to demonstrate sustained excellence in teaching, service, and scholarship consistent with University of Toledo policies governing promotion and tenure eligibility.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies or a related health profession discipline (e.g., MD, DO, MSN, DNP, PharmD) from a regionally or nationally accredited institution.
  • Current or emeritus NCCPA certification (for Physician Assistants) or appropriate professional certification/licensure in a related discipline.
  • Eligibility for licensure in the State of Ohio.
  • Minimum of (3) three years of clinical experience in a relevant healthcare discipline.
  • Demonstrated expertise in pharmacology, clinical pharmacotherapy, or a closely related discipline, evidenced through advanced training, graduate coursework, or substantial clinical practice experience in pharmacological management.
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively within an interprofessional team-based academic or clinical environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate comfortably with students, colleagues, preceptors, and external constituents.
  • Strong organizational skills with emphasis on attention to detail and follow-up.
  • Ability to independently anticipate and complete projects and set priorities accordingly.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in physician assistant education, particularly within the didactic phase.
  • Experience teaching pharmacology or pharmacotherapy in a physician assistant, medical, nursing, or pharmacy program.
  • Prior course director or curriculum leadership experience.
  • Familiarity with PANCE blueprint pharmacology and pharmacotherapy content domains and their integration into PA didactic curricula.
  • Experience with clinical teaching and precepting students.
  • Experience with accreditation processes and familiarity with ARC-PA Standards.
  • Experience mentoring students' scholarly or research projects.
  • Record of peer-reviewed publications and national or regional presentations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with learning management systems and assessment platforms (e.g., Blackboard).
