About The Position

The West Virginia University Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine seeks to fill two tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant Professor rank. Candidates with innovative research programs focused on the fundamental mechanisms underlying human disease are particularly sought. The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine offers a collaborative, multifaceted academic environment with active research in Sensory and Vision Science; Structural, Cell, and RNA Biology; Cellular Metabolism; and Age-Related Diseases. Faculty are backed by substantial salary support. The department maintains a highly regarded faculty mentoring program to help advance the careers of junior faculty. Further, successful candidates may be eligible to participate in an NIH funded, mentored career development program at WVU and may apply for funding from the Visual Sciences Center of Biomedical Research Excellence. The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine is part of the Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center, which incorporates the WVU Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing, and Public Health. Research at the Health Sciences Center is supported by state-of-the-art core facilities at HSC and throughout the WVU campus. West Virginia University is a comprehensive, R1 designated, land-grant University with 190 undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs and approximately 24,000 students. Morgantown is situated in the mountains of northern West Virginia, with proximity to Pittsburgh, PA, and Washington, DC. Requirements

  • Terminal degree in the biomedical or related fields
  • At least one year’s postdoctoral experience in a related field
  • High-quality publications
  • PhD in another field with 2 years of postdoctoral training in the biomedical or biological sciences and demonstrated successful contributions to biomedical research

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain an extramurally funded research program
  • Participate in departmental teaching at the undergraduate, graduate or professional levels
