About The Position

California State University (CSU), Chico is seeking an Assistant Tenure-Track Professor to serve as the Coordinator of the Music Industry Program within the Department of Music, Theatre and Dance. This position, starting Fall 2027, is within the College of Humanities and Fine Arts. The university is a comprehensive and residential public university with Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) designation, committed to recruiting outstanding candidates who embrace values of student success and equity, and have demonstrated experience working with diverse populations. The role involves teaching, curriculum development, recruitment, mentoring, and administration of the undergraduate Music Industry program. The anticipated hiring range is $75,000 - $85,000 per year, commensurate with education and experience. The initial review date for applications is 11/13/26.

Requirements

  • A master’s degree or substantial and continued excellence in the field.
  • Demonstrated excellence or potential excellence in teaching and in scholarship or creative activity in the field.
  • Expert knowledge of the structure, evolution, developments, and present practices of the music industry.
  • Evidence of or strong potential for activity in national and international professional associations related to the field of music industry.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse communities reflective of the Chico State student population.
  • Must provide a current cover letter (including how you have addressed, or plan to address, teaching to diverse student groups, how you would be successful in the possible teaching assignments listed under responsibilities, and any other ways you feel you might contribute to the department), a CV, and contact information of three professional references.

  • Faculty assignments include in-person duties that require an on-campus presence.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching, curriculum development, recruitment, mentoring, and administration of the Music Industry program at the undergraduate level.
  • Teaching classes such as Music Industry Studies and Analysis, Music Industry Forum, School of the Arts Productions, and Legal Issues in Music.
  • Potentially teaching in other related music areas, including classes serving the recording arts program, core music major classes, applied music classes, general education classes, or advising and supervision and/or development of student internships.
  • Teaching load of four courses per semester.
  • Advising and supervision and/or development of student internships may be part of the teaching load.
  • Teaching assignments based upon qualifications of the individual and the needs of the department.
