About The Position

Full-time Assistant Professor faculty positions within the appointment stream are available within the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh for statistical and biostatistical scientists with a wide range of expertise and experience. Successful candidates will have experience in engaging in statistical collaborations with clinical/scientific investigators who direct research programs in multiple domains of psychiatry, and conducting their own funded, independent research (applied and/or methodological developments in statistics with applications in Psychiatry and related disciplines). Primary selection criteria are a history of statistical scholarship, evidence of successful collaborative research, and the ability to play a leadership role in contributing to an interactive and dynamic research community. Successful candidates will join a vibrant and highly collaborative research community with a storied history of excellence in basic, translational, and clinical research, and will be provided with resources to help support the development of their careers. Requirements

  • PhD in Statistics, Biostatistics, or closely related field, such as Psychometrics, Quantitative Genetics, or Quantitative Psychology
  • Demonstrated interest in biomedical, biobehavioral, and/or psychiatric research (e.g., as shown through peer review publications and collaborations).
  • Success in authoring and co-authoring original research and review articles in refereed journals. The quality of the journals themselves and the position of authorship will be considered.
  • Success in securing funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) or other sources.
  • Demonstrated excellence in methodological and collaborative research
  • Outstanding communication and organizational skills, with ability to collaborate across multiple ongoing projects
  • Flexibility and ability to work in a rapidly changing/growing educational institution

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with clinical and research investigators on study design, analysis, and interpretation of psychiatric research.
  • Develop and sustain an independent, externally funded program in applied and/or methodological statistical research.
  • Publish collaborative and methodological research in peer reviewed journals and present findings at scientific meetings.
  • Contribute to teaching, mentoring, and service activities consistent with rank and departmental needs.
