About The Position

The Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine is seeking a plastic and reconstructive surgeon to join its full-time academic faculty. This individual will practice at Johns Hopkins Hospital. In addition to patient care duties, the faculty member will teach residents, engage in research, and participate in clinical program development. Areas of focus include the complete spectrum of reconstructive surgery. Successful candidates will have appropriate training and skills in complex reconstructive surgery and microsurgery. The faculty member will be expected to build a clinical practice focusing on microsurgery inclusive of general reconstructive surgery and breast reconstruction; and achieve a productive clinical practice in microsurgery. They will also train residents and fellows and teach medical and graduate students in their clinical care activity.

Requirements

Applicants must have an M.D. or equivalent degree.
They should be certified (or eligible to be) by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
The applicant should have training and experience in the full spectrum of plastic surgery and feel comfortable with facial fracture repair and flap reconstruction, including microsurgery.
Strong organizational skills.
Strong interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to work well independently to build clinical practice.

Nice To Haves

Fellowship in craniofacial surgery and/or microsurgery is not mandatory.
Leadership skills are highly desirable.
Strong interest in resident and medical student education.

Responsibilities

Clinical Time spent treating patients will consist of evaluation and management of patients requiring reconstructive surgery for traumatic, oncologic, and aesthetic needs.
The faculty member will practice in the Johns Hopkins Hospital and Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and its affiliated ambulatory surgical facilities.
Resident supervision and instruction are a major component of the position.
The faculty member is expected to participate in departmental grand rounds (weekly) and morbidity and mortality conference (monthly), which occur on Thursday mornings at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Research endeavors will be encouraged and supported.
Clinical research and outcome studies are abundant.
Faculty may collaborate with each other across campuses as well as with the residents and fellows within the Department based on their area(s) of interest.
Build a clinical practice focusing on microsurgery inclusive of general reconstructive surgery and breast reconstruction.
Achieve a productive clinical practice in microsurgery.
Train residents and fellows and teach medical and graduate students in their clinical care activity.
