About The Position

The Department of Mathematics at Virginia Tech is seeking a tenure-track faculty member specializing in Combinatorial Algebraic Geometry. This position aims to build upon existing strengths in algebraic combinatorics and expand the department's research profile in areas of algebraic geometry where combinatorial structures and computational methods are central. The successful candidate will be expected to establish a distinguished research program, contribute to the department's research profile in geometry and topology, and provide effective instruction and advising to undergraduate and graduate students. Responsibilities also include travel for conferences, service to the department and university, and potential interdisciplinary research, curriculum development, or outreach initiatives.

Requirements

Ph.D. in mathematics or a related field at the time of appointment.
An active research program in combinatorial algebraic geometry, broadly construed.
A criminal conviction check.

Nice To Haves

A strong background in algebraic geometry, algebraic combinatorics, geometric representation theory, or related areas.
Research interests may include classical and quantum Schubert calculus, toric and tropical geometry, and combinatorial Hodge theory.
Evidence of a strong research record, including successful postdoctoral experience.
A record of achievement, as might be demonstrated during a postdoctoral or previous faculty appointment.
A research program which draws on topics from algebraic geometry, algebraic combinatorics, Schubert Calculus, toric and tropical geometry, and related areas.
Vision, creativity, and leadership skills relevant to research, instruction, and/or mentoring.
Demonstrated effectiveness or interest and potential in undergraduate and graduate teaching.
