About The Position

The Department of Women’s and Gender Studies at Loyola Marymount University (LMU), a Carnegie-classified R2 institution, is seeking an Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track) who values its Mission and shares its commitment to inclusive excellence and the building of a just society. LMU is a Hispanic‑Serving Institution (HSI), Black‑Serving Institution (BSI), and Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander‑Serving Institution (AANAPISI), committed to fostering people for and with others. This is a full-time, 9-month tenure-track academic appointment with an annual salary paid over 12 months for continuous benefits coverage. We welcome teacher-scholars with doctoral degrees in Women’s and Gender Studies, Ethnic Studies, or other cognate interdisciplinary fields. PhDs in other social science and humanities disciplines with designated emphases in these areas will also be considered. ABD applicants who complete their doctorate by Fall 2027 will be considered.

Requirements

Doctoral degree in Women’s and Gender Studies, Ethnic Studies, or other cognate interdisciplinary fields.
PhD is required; however, ABD applicants who complete the doctorate by Fall 2027 will also be considered.
Background in social science research.
Expertise in one or more of the following fields: Black feminism, decolonial or postcolonial studies, environmental justice/queer ecology, or militarism.
Demonstrate a commitment to working with diverse student and community populations.
Demonstrate a commitment to LMU’s teacher-scholar model.
Commitment to and any past and/or potential contributions to advancing LMU's mission and promoting the success, sense of belonging, and thriving of students from a variety of lived experiences.

Responsibilities

Teach introduction level courses in Women’s and Gender Studies.
Teach a course in feminist and queer research methods.
Teach an upper division course in the applicant’s area of expertise.
Maintain an active program of scholarship.
Teach.
Advise and mentor undergraduate students.
Contribute to department and university service.
Conduct research and creative work that contributes to the larger body of knowledge.
Set an example for the importance of lifelong learning.
Teach a diverse student body in a transformative learning environment.
