About The Position

The Department of Theatre and Dance at Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama, invites applications for a 9-month, full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor of Theatre commencing fall semester 2027. The position is contingent on funding. The department serves approximately 100 majors and offers a B.A. in theatre as well as B.F.A degrees in performance, musical theatre, design & technology, and management. The department is housed in a dedicated theatre facility including a 340-seat house with proscenium/thrust stage, a black box performance space, studio theatre, design studio, fully equipped shops, a dance/movement studio, a vocal studio, a smart classroom, and a computer lab. Auburn University is a comprehensive land grant, R-1 institution with an enrollment of nearly 30,000 students. Auburn is home to the Gogue Performing Arts Center (GPAC), which offers opportunities for visiting artist workshops and collaborations.

Requirements

Ph.D. in Theatre by the time employment begins.
Proven record of publications.
Strong teaching abilities.
Achievable research plan for tenure and promotion in an R-1 environment.
Must be able to meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.
Excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

Teach five courses per academic year on a 3:2 load (3 courses one semester, 2 the other).
Teaching areas may include theatre history, dramaturgy, text analysis, and introduction to theatre, in addition to advanced topical seminars in literature, history, theory, and/or performance praxis.
Be a key member of the B.A. faculty with opportunities to shape curricular development.
Involvement in the production season is possible, subject to qualifications and departmental needs.
