About The Position

The Department of English at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) is seeking a specialist in The Novel for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position starting August 2027. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and master’s level courses, including core major classes like Historical Approaches to Literature and Analysis of Fiction and Nonfiction. Secondary areas of expertise are welcome. The department is large and dynamic, encompassing Linguistics, Literature, Rhetoric and Composition, and Creative Writing. Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to teaching diverse literatures and employing inclusive pedagogies. An interest in linking scholarship and/or teaching to public-facing projects or community engagement is encouraged.

Requirements

PhD in English Literature, Comparative Literature, or a closely related field by the time of appointment.
Evidence of commitment to teaching diverse literatures and employing inclusive pedagogies.
Ability to link scholarship and/or teaching to public-facing projects or community engagement.

Specialization in The Novel.
Ability to regularly teach classes in the core of the major, such as Historical Approaches to Literature and Analysis of Fiction and Nonfiction.

Responsibilities

Teach a range of undergraduate and master’s courses based on sub-specialization and departmental programmatic needs.
Teach the standard assignment of four classes per semester, with a reduced assignment for the first two years.
Demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population.
Work effectively with faculty, staff, and students across a wide range of disciplines.
Comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment (mandated reporter).
Complete Sexual Violence Prevention Training within 6 months of assuming employment and on a two-year basis thereafter.
Potentially file a Statement of Economic Interest annually and complete Conflict of Interest training if the position is designated under the CSU's Conflict of Interest Code.
