About The Position

The Department of Arts, Culture & Media at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) is seeking applications for a two-year full-time contractually limited term appointment (CLTA) in media industry studies, with a specific focus on the relationship between media industries and institutions. The appointment is at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2026, and an end date of July 31, 2028. This search is part of the University's commitment to promoting diversity within its community. The position requires specialization in media industries and institutions, examining the political economic, industrial, and/or technological aspects of media production, distribution, and labor, with an emphasis beyond North American contexts. A critical, comparative, and global approach to media industries in the Global South is expected, potentially including research on regions like Bollywood, Nollywood, or Latin American streaming economies. The successful candidate will also contribute to teaching interests that complement and enhance the department's existing strengths, including lecture preparation and delivery, curriculum development, and online material creation. A commitment to pedagogical inquiry and teaching-related scholarly activities is essential.

Requirements

PhD degree in Media Studies, Communication Studies, or Critical Platform Studies or a related area by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter
Demonstrated record of excellence in teaching
Specialization in media industries and institutions
Focus on the political economic, industrial, and/or technological dimensions of media production, distribution, and labour beyond North American contexts
Critical, comparative, and global approach to media industries in the Global South
Teaching experience in a degree-granting program
Demonstrated commitment to excellent pedagogical inquiry
Demonstrated interest in teaching-related scholarly activities
Submission of a cover letter
Submission of a current curriculum vitae
Submission of a recent writing sample
Submission of a complete teaching dossier (including teaching statement, sample syllabi and course materials, and teaching evaluations)
