About The Position

The School of Marketing at The University of Southern Mississippi is seeking a nine-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Marketing to begin in August 2027. This role will contribute to both undergraduate and graduate programs, including the Marketing BSBA, Marketing Minor, certificates, and graduate-level courses. The position involves teaching assignments determined by instructional needs, with specific courses including Consumer Behavior, Marketing Analytics, and Marketing Management at various academic levels. Candidates with experience in engaged learning, analytics, and online teaching are particularly encouraged to apply. The university is a community-engaged Carnegie R1 institution with a strong research focus and a commitment to preparing students for success in a wide range of fields.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. or D.B.A. in Marketing or a related field.
  • Candidates with ABD status may also be considered but must provide strong evidence that the doctoral degree will be completed before August 2027.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full time and continuing basis without current or future sponsorship.
  • Temporary employment authorizations, including OPT and CPT, do not satisfy this requirement.
  • A high-quality research pipeline and proven research record evidenced by quality publications.
  • Relevant teaching experience/interests and demonstrated effective project-focused applied teaching experience.
  • Ability to deliver instruction effectively in both face-to-face and online environments.
  • Relevant experience in course development (face-to-face and online) and professional and/or academic experience.
  • Emphasis is also on candidates who can connect with and relate to our students and challenge them to become effective problem solvers according to the School of Marketing's Mission/Vision.
  • Ability to articulate concepts and instructions effectively to students.
  • Capacity to build positive and professional relationships with students and colleagues.
  • Skilled in managing course materials, time, and administrative tasks like grading and answering emails.

Nice To Haves

  • Ph.D. or D.B.A. in Marketing or a related field from an AACSB-accredited institution.
  • A high-quality research pipeline and demonstrated research record, evidenced by publications in quality academic journals.
  • Relevant teaching experience, particularly in Consumer Behavior, Marketing Analytics, and Marketing Management.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in project-focused and applied teaching.
  • Ability to teach effectively at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

  • Relevant experience in course development for face-to-face and online delivery.
  • Professional experience in a marketing-related field.

Responsibilities

  • Teach three courses per semester, or equivalent, with specific teaching assignments determined by the Director of the School based on the instructional needs of the School.
  • Teach Consumer Behavior, Marketing Analytics, and Marketing Management courses at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels based on the instructional needs of the School.
  • Demonstrate the willingness and ability to teach additional marketing courses, such as Principles of Marketing, Marketing Research, or other courses as needed.
  • Support the School's graduate marketing offerings through the delivery and development of graduate-level marketing courses as assigned.
  • Maintain an active program of scholarly research, demonstrate high-quality teaching, and contribute service supporting the mission of the School, College, and University.
  • Produce scholarly research published in recognized journals as required for tenure and promotion and demonstrate evidence of innovation and/or continuous improvement in teaching.
  • Participate in recruitment, committee work, and other service activities for the School, College, and University, and perform other duties as assigned.
