About The Position

East Texas A&M University is developing a new PsyD in Clinical/School Psychology and is seeking a Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Clinical Psychology to help lead the program. The position begins Fall 2027. As an R2: High Research Activity institution, East Texas A&M offers the resources of a research institution with a commitment to student success. The Department of Psychology and Special Education is growing, offering a unique opportunity to influence curriculum, training philosophy, and program culture. The successful candidate will teach and conduct research in the Master of Science in Clinical Psychology program, preparing students in evidence-based assessment and intervention. They will also play a key role in developing and delivering the forthcoming PsyD, teach other graduate courses, build a research program, and contribute service to the department, university, and profession. The university offers private lab space, a dedicated graduate research assistant, and a reduced teaching load in the first year to support research program development. The ideal candidate is a dedicated scholar and educator excited about graduate training, committed to evidence-based practice, and motivated by building a new program.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or PsyD) in Clinical Psychology (or closely related field) prior to Fall 2027
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a team of professionals
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Commitment to high quality teaching
  • Ability to interact with students, staff, and faculty in a professional, collegial, and collaborative manner
  • Ability to work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends
  • Ability to travel

Nice To Haves

  • Licensed (or license eligible) as a psychologist in the state of Texas
  • Experience mentoring graduate and/or undergraduate students in research
  • University teaching experience, including at the graduate level
  • Online teaching experience
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to curriculum development in clinic psychology

Responsibilities

  • Develop and sustain a productive research program leading to peer reviewed publications, conference presentations, and other scholarly contributions
  • Mentor and engage both graduate and undergraduate students in research
  • Provide teaching excellence to graduate students in Clinical Psychology
  • Teach courses in Clinical Psychology, including Psychopathology and Diagnosis, Personality Psychology, Assessment, and others at the graduate level
  • Prepare syllabi
  • Update course materials
  • Develop curriculum
  • Work collaboratively with faculty and staff to implement departmental programs
  • Provide service to the department, college, university and public schools, and community
  • Maintain knowledge and stay abreast of evidence-based assessment and intervention research, and technological applications in the classroom, including online teaching
