About The Position

The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB Health) in Galveston, Texas, is seeking a Family Medicine with OB physician for an Associate/Full Professor Residency Core Faculty position, also serving as Director of Women’s Health. UTMB Health is a large academic health center with multiple hospitals, clinics, and schools, dedicated to advancing health sciences education, research, and patient care. The Department of Family Medicine has a long history and provides comprehensive care to Galveston County residents through its clinics and inpatient services. This role involves 85% clinical practice and 15% core residency faculty time as Director of Women’s Health. The Director will oversee women's health education for residents, including curriculum development, Labor & Delivery coverage, and continuity/prenatal clinics. There is an opportunity to develop an OB fellowship and community outreach programs. Scholarship, including publications and presentations, is expected. The clinical practice will be primarily at the Island East Clinic, with rotations to other clinics as needed. Responsibilities may include on-call duties, precepting medical students, and providing comprehensive care within a patient-centered medical home model.

Requirements

  • MD or DO degree
  • Completion of an OB Surgical fellowship or OB Surgical experience preferred
  • A strong commitment to research, patient care, medical student, and resident education.
  • U.S. Citizenship or Employment Authorization to work in the U.S.
  • The desire to mentor faculty, resident physicians and others in women’s health and build a fellowship program.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all women’s health related education for the resident physicians, including curriculum development, L & D coverage, and continuity and prenatal clinics.
  • Develop an OB fellowship and community based outreach programs to impact rates of preterm labor and increase access to prenatal care.
  • Engage in scholarship, including publishing manuscripts, abstracts, posters, and national presentations.
  • Practice primarily at the Island East Clinic, rotating through Island West or Dickinson Family Medicine Clinics as departmental need arises.
  • Share on-call responsibilities, including evening and weekend hours.
  • Precept medical students and cover other clinical services as needed.
  • Provide comprehensive health care with enhanced access for patients within a patient-centered medical home clinical model.
