About The Position

The College of Business at Ferris State University seeks a diverse group of outstanding applicants for a full-time, 12-month Assistant Professor position within the PGA Golf Management Program. This position blends teaching (12 credits per semester; fall, spring, and summer), student engagement, and program coordination responsibilities to support the continued growth and operational needs of the PGA Golf Management Program. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality instruction while also serving in a key coordination role that supports internships, PGA education requirements, student progression, accreditation compliance, and alumni engagement. Additionally, faculty are expected to participate in collaborative efforts to foster curricular efforts, participate in assessment of student learning, and further develop programmatic enhancement. The successful candidate will contribute to curricular development, participate in assessment of student learning, and support ongoing program enhancement. We seek someone who is committed to engaging students beyond the classroom, supporting existing academic initiatives, and mentoring students beyond traditional advising expectations. Program Coordination plays a critical role in by managing day-to-day program operations and student support functions essential to program success. Courses are to be taught in person on one of Ferris State University's Campuses. The candidate(s) selected for the position must reside in Michigan by the first day of employment and will perform duties at a Ferris site. In support of teaching, candidates will engage in scholarly or professional activities and participate in department, college, and university committees. Off-campus and online teaching may be required. Courses will be taught in person on a Ferris State University campus, and the selected candidate must reside in Michigan after accepting the position. The anticipated start date is August of 2026 at the earliest and January of 2027 at the latest.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree OR Bachelor’s degree in business, hospitality, sport management, or related field with the expectation of completion of a Master's degree within one year of hire.
  • Five or more years of senior management level experience in the golf industry.
  • 3 years of relevant golf industry and/or PGA Golf Management experience
  • Demonstrated ability to teach at the undergraduate level
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • PGA Member in good standing.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate PGA Golf Management and related courses
  • Deliver instruction across Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters
  • Support PGA education curriculum, including applied learning and professional development
  • Participate in curriculum development, assessment, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Utilize multiple teaching modalities (face-to-face, hybrid, online as appropriate)
  • Maintain office hours, submit grades on time, and support student success initiatives
  • Advise PGM Students
  • Maintain records and conduct assessment and advising in accordance with policies and procedures developed by the university, college, school, department, and/or program.

  • Coordinate and support student completion of PGA work experience and internship requirements
  • Assist with grading, evaluation, and documentation of PGA work experience portfolios
  • Maintain communication with students and employers during internship experiences
  • Monitor internship progression and ensure alignment with PGA standards
  • Participate in department, college, and university committees
  • Assist with recruitment efforts (DAWG Days, admitted student events, outreach), which will occur throughout the year and include some Saturdays
  • Engage in professional development and industry involvement
  • Support student organizations and experiential learning initiatives
  • Cultivate an environment of belonging that values, respects, supports, and celebrates individual similarities and differences, allowing students, faculty, and staff to thrive authentically.
  • Contribute to curricular development and help advance new academic initiatives.
  • Remain current in the discipline through professional development, scholarly activity, and active involvement with relevant professional organizations; may serve as a program liaison when appropriate.
  • Support, promote and develop university enrollment, retention, and student success initiatives.
  • Any other duties assigned within the position classification area.
  • The PGA Golf Management Program operates under specialized accreditation standards and experiential learning requirements that extend beyond traditional faculty responsibilities. These include internship coordination, PGA education tracking, student progression monitoring, accreditation reporting, and extensive industry engagement.
