About The Position

The Department of Music in the College of Liberal Arts at The University of Texas at Arlington invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor (Orchestra Director). In accordance with USCIS regulations, successful applicants must be legally able to accept work in the United States. Requirements

• Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) or equivalent terminal degree in conducting or a related field by the time of appointment.
• Demonstrated excellence as an orchestral conductor.
• Demonstrated success in teaching conducting at the collegiate level.
• Demonstrated knowledge of pedagogy and effective rehearsal techniques.
• Ability to recruit and retain orchestral students.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with colleagues and students.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Orchestra Director and provide artistic and administrative leadership for the orchestra program.
• Conduct the university orchestra and oversee all aspects of the ensemble, including programming, rehearsals, performances, auditions, and personnel.
• Teach courses in conducting and related areas based on departmental needs.
• Actively recruit and retain talented string students through engagement with high school orchestra programs and the broader orchestra community.
• Work collaboratively with applied string faculty to support student recruitment, retention, mentoring, and the continued growth of the string and orchestra programs.
• Develop orchestral opportunities that support the artistic, educational, and career goals of students and the Department of Music.
• Cultivate an active professional and creative profile appropriate for artistic development and earning tenure.
• Contribute to the Department, College, University, and profession through service and professional activities.
