About The Position

The Department of Art & Digital Media at Marist University invites applications for the position of tenure track Assistant Professor or term Professional Lecturer of Games and Emerging Media to join the School of Communication and the Arts beginning in Fall 2027. The faculty member will be teaching game art and animation, UX/UI, and/or design courses in the Games & Emerging Media program (which is recognized as one of the top 50 game programs in the world by Princeton Review), as well as courses in Digital Media, Graphic Design, and Fine Arts. We encourage candidates who can demonstrate, through their teaching, scholarship, and service, their ability to contribute to Marist’s mission of cultivating an inclusive and welcoming academic community.

Requirements

  • An M.F.A., Ph.D. or other terminal degree in a relevant discipline by the time of appointment, and/or extensive professional experience in the games industry.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: game art and animation, game engines, C#, virtual reality/augmented reality, modding, indie games, game writing, and/or UX/UI.
  • Ability to foster positive working and learning relationships with students and colleagues from varied backgrounds, experiences, and viewpoints.
  • An approach to research and creative practices in gaming, art, and UX that is interdisciplinary.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching game art and animation, UX/UI, and/or design courses in the Games & Emerging Media program.
  • Teaching courses in Digital Media, Graphic Design, and Fine Arts.
  • Teaching courses that align with their expertise, selected from a range of courses such as Intro to Visual Design, Game Art, Game Animation (2D/3D), Character Design, Level Design, Intro to Digital Media, and Game Writing; courses in Unity, Unreal Engine, and/or Godot, as well as courses in User Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI) design, like Advanced UX; Inclusive and Ethical Design; and UX and AI.
  • Ability to teach in the field of game development.
  • Ability to help develop new curricula in this field.
  • Engagement in university and professional services such as advising/mentoring students, serving on department, school, or university committees.
