The Department of Ocean and Resources Engineering (ORE) and the Hawai’i Natural Energy Institute (HNEI), within the School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology (SOEST) at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa, are seeking to fill a tenure-track, permanent, full-time position at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level. This 11-month position is funded and will involve developing and sustaining an extramurally funded research program, teaching graduate courses, mentoring students and postdoctoral researchers, publishing research, serving the academic and professional communities, coordinating field installations like the Navy’s Wave Energy Test Site (WETS), and assuming a leadership role in the Hawai’i Marine Energy Center (HMEC). The position is for individuals with a PhD in a discipline closely related to Ocean/Marine Engineering, demonstrating teaching and research capabilities, and excellent communication skills. For the Associate Professor level, a minimum of four years of service as an Assistant Professor or equivalent is also required. Desirable qualifications include demonstrated ability to attract extramural funding, licensure as a Professional Engineer, experience complementing HNEI/ORE disciplines, experience in research institutes, managing multi-disciplinary teams, fostering a respectful work environment, and expertise in wave energy converter (WEC) topics and other forms of marine energy. Experience with WEC test sites and attracting developers is also preferred.
