Tufts University School of Dental Medicine (TUSDM) offers one of the most forward-looking educational environments in dental medicine in the country. Since its founding in 1868, the School has been committed to leadership in education, patient care, research, and community service. TUSDM provides an interdisciplinary education integrated with medicine, offering students access to training across dental specialties. Its clinics deliver comprehensive care to more than 20,000 individuals annually, while faculty and students advance oral health through national and international programs and research on innovative procedures, materials, and technologies. Within this environment, the Department of Comprehensive Care is dedicated to educating dental students using the best available evidence and technology to achieve and maintain optimal oral health, comfort, function, and esthetics. The department emphasizes risk-based diagnosis, prevention, and tooth-preserving management of caries, non-carious diseases, and disorders of the oral cavity, all within the context of the patient’s overall health in an integrated care model. To fulfill this mission, the department is organized into divisions that collectively provide the foundational experiences necessary to develop students into highly skilled, ethical, and compassionate dental professionals. The department also prioritizes civic engagement and leadership development as essential components of students’ professional formation. The Practice Coordinator plays a central role in advancing this mission by leading a clinical practice group and overseeing student learning, patient care delivery, and practice operations.
