About The Position

The Department of Civil, Environmental & Geomatics Engineering at Florida Atlantic University is seeking a non-tenure-track Assistant Teaching Professor. The ideal candidate will have a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license and significant design experience in civil and environmental engineering, including preparation of plans, specifications, and engineering studies. Expertise in applied, industry-relevant transportation problems or advanced analytical methods is highly desirable. The position will involve teaching courses such as structural analysis, drawings, and design-related classes, including the senior design capstone. The department offers ABET-accredited undergraduate programs, a Master's in Civil Engineering, and a Ph.D. in Transportation and Environmental Engineering, serving approximately 400 undergraduate and 100 graduate students. Faculty are engaged in interdisciplinary research in Urban Mobility, Infrastructure, and Sustainability/Resilience, supported by three research centers. The College of Engineering and Computer Science is recognized for its rapid progress and offers specializations in national priority areas. Florida Atlantic University, a large public university with multiple campuses, is known for its research growth and student achievement, holding an R1 designation for very high research activity.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree and a Ph.D. in civil or environmental engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in the State of Florida, or in another state with the ability to acquire such a license in Florida.
  • Demonstrated ability in communication, interpersonal skills, collaboration, leadership, and student motivation.

Nice To Haves

  • Significant design experience in the preparation of plans, specifications, and engineering studies.
  • Academic work focuses on applied, industry-relevant transportation problems or emerging analytical methods in the field.

Responsibilities

  • Teach structural analysis, drawings classes, and design-related classes including senior design capstone.
  • Mentor graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Participate in professional and departmental service activities.
  • Become familiar with new pedagogies such as active learning and AI literacy in civil and environmental engineering.
  • Re-create knowledge for educating and nurturing students and translating knowledge into practice.
