About The Position

The Department of Teacher Education within the College of Social Science and Education at CSU Bakersfield is seeking an Assistant Professor. This tenure-track, full-time position is for the 2027-2028 academic year, available in Fall 2027. The department is committed to academic and inclusive excellence and diversity. The programs and services offered are designed to prepare candidates for specific credentials required in the State of California, and the department prepares over 80% of the teachers in Kern and surrounding CA counties.

Requirements

• A doctoral degree in Education or a related field at the time of the start date
• Hold a valid California Teaching Credential or equivalent experience
• Minimum of three years in public-school teaching experience in secondary education, serving students in cross-cultural and cross-lingual settings
• Single-Subject expertise in STEM, Social Studies, Literacy, Art, Music, Dance, World Language, or PE fields
• Demonstrated potential for sustained growth and success in research, scholarship, and/or creative activities
• Record of service (or ability to serve) to department, college, university, and community
• Demonstration of collegiality and an enthusiastic approach to collaboration
• Ability to work with community partners, in addition to content area specialists across the university
• Demonstrated commitment to teaching undergraduates from diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds, including first-generation students

Responsibilities

• Teach credential and graduate-level courses
• Supervise candidates in fieldwork
• Maintain an active scholarly agenda
• Engage in department, university, and community service
