About The Position

The University of the District of Columbia (UDC), the District’s only public institution of higher education and an urban land‑grant, minority‑serving institution, invites applications for a full‑time, nine‑month permanent faculty appointment in Social Work. This position is housed within the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) Program in the Division of Behavioral and Applied Health. UDC enrolls approximately 4,200 students across its associate, baccalaureate, master’s, and professional programs. The Washington metropolitan area provides an exceptional learning environment for students, faculty, and community partners.

Requirements

An appropriate terminal degree or agree to complete this degree within a period of time to be specified in the terms of the initial contract.
At least three (3) years of full-time teaching experience, including two (2) years in an institution of higher education.
Appropriate professional experience and achievements may be substituted when formal teaching experience is limited or absent.
When formal teaching experience is limited or absent, the candidate shall be required to demonstrate verifiable potential for effective teaching.

Responsibilities

Teach undergraduate social work courses aligned with the generalist curriculum, mentor students, engage in scholarly activities, and participate in service at the program, division, college, and university levels.
Teach courses in the BSW professional foundation curriculum, with emphasis on mezzo and macro practice areas such as human behavior, social welfare policy, group work, and community practice.
Contribute to curriculum development, including preparation of syllabi and alignment with CSWE Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards (EPAS).
Develop and maintain an active scholarly agenda consistent with tenure expectations.
Create and update model syllabi for assigned courses.
Serve as lead faculty for designated curriculum areas.
Mentor BSW students on professional development, career pathways, and field readiness, consistent with faculty responsibilities outlined in the BSW Program Handbook.
Provide leadership and service on program, division, and university committees.
Engage in collaborative research and community‑based projects that include opportunities for student participation.
Participate in ongoing assessment and continuous improvement of program outcomes.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
