About The Position

The Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Arizona invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Quantitative, Population, and Community Ecology. The department seeks applicants who address fundamental ecological questions, especially in population and community ecology, using quantitative approaches grounded in theory, experiments, observations, or field studies. Research examining how biodiversity and evolutionary processes shape ecological dynamics is also welcome. Relevant areas include population dynamics, species interactions, community assembly, eco-evolutionary dynamics, ecoinformatics, spatial and temporal dynamics, ecological networks, phylogenetics, biodiversity change, and ecological responses to environmental change. The department is particularly interested in scientists who develop or apply quantitative and computational methods to explain and predict ecological and eco-evolutionary dynamics in response to global change. Potential approaches include mathematical and statistical modeling, machine learning, artificial intelligence, simulation, causal inference, ecological forecasting, biodiversity informatics, remote sensing, and integrating large, heterogeneous biological datasets. Researchers may focus on particular organisms or ecological systems, or integrate across approaches, systems, scales, or levels of biological organization. Research programs that connect ecological, biodiversity, and evolutionary theory with data, quantify uncertainty, generate testable predictions, and leverage University experimental, field, data-science, and computational resources are encouraged. The successful candidate will establish and maintain a competitive research program, teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, mentor and support student success, participate in outreach, and contribute to departmental, college, and university service. The position is full-time, tenure-track, and based at the University of Arizona’s Tucson campus. The target hire date is August 16, 2027. The University of Arizona offers health, dental, and vision insurance; life insurance and disability programs; sick leave and holidays; tuition reduction at the University of Arizona, Arizona State University, and Northern Arizona University for the employee and qualified family members; retirement plans; and access to university recreation and cultural activities.
