Assistant Professor of Public Administration
About The Position
California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) is seeking an Assistant Professor of Public Administration. This position is within the College of Health & Human Services, specifically in the Graduate Center for Public Policy & Administration (GCPPA). The GCPPA offers a NASPAA-accredited MPA degree designed to prepare students for leadership and management in public and nonprofit organizations. The program has a strong reputation, established in 1973, with over 3,000 alumni in prominent positions. The program offers a rigorous curriculum with core and elective courses delivered in various modalities, including in-person and online. Core curriculum covers budgeting and finance, human resource management, organization theory and behavior, policy analysis, research methods, and directed research. Electives span areas like leadership, nonprofit management, grants administration, and urban affairs.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in public administration, public policy, political science or closely related field. Degree at time of application or official notification of completion of the doctoral degree by August 1, 2027
- Demonstrated potential for effectiveness teaching graduate-level public administration courses.
- Demonstrated potential for excellence in research, scholarly, and creative activities.
- Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population, including low socioeconomic and first-generation students.
Nice To Haves
- Ability to teach public budgeting and finance courses.
- Evidence of research agenda in public administration and scholarly achievements (e.g., conference presentations, publications, grant activity, etc.)
- Ability to teach a variety of core and elective MPA courses in a variety of modalities.
- Experience successfully working with populations demographically and/or socioeconomically similar to the CSULB student body.
- Experience mentoring or supporting students using inclusive and culturally relevant teaching strategies in a diverse classroom.
Responsibilities
- Teach graduate public administration courses in a NASPAA accredited MPA program.
- Contribute to the faculty shared governance of the program, and contribute to accreditation activities.
- Engage in high quality research that leads to conference participation and peer-reviewed publications.
- Provide service to the department, college, university, and community.
- Mode of instruction may include in-person, hybrid, online, and/or any combination thereof.
