About The Position

San Diego State University (SDSU) Department of Psychology is seeking a tenure-track assistant professor with expertise in quantitative psychology. The ideal candidate will develop and apply novel quantitative methods (e.g., machine learning, data mining, AI, network analysis, Bayesian estimation, psychometrics, advanced SEM, advanced multilevel models) to analyze psychological data from various designs (experimental, quasi-experimental, intervention/prevention, longitudinal). This role offers opportunities for collaboration with faculty across different substantive areas (clinical, social, I/O, cognitive, developmental psychology) and involves teaching applied statistics at both graduate and undergraduate levels. The department offers a PhD in Clinical Psychology (joint with UC San Diego), an MS in applied psychology (I/O and quantitative methodology), and an MA in various psychology fields. The position adheres to a teacher-scholar model, balancing teaching and research.

Requirements

  • Terminal degree in Psychology or related field, with all degree requirements met by date of hire.
  • A record of original research/scholarly/creative accomplishments.
  • Demonstrated capacity to develop a vigorous and independent program of research/scholarship/creative activity.
  • Demonstrated capacity to teach graduate and undergraduate courses.
  • Demonstrated capacity to engage in campus and professional service activities.
  • Demonstration of past accomplishments and/or future plans in at least two (2) or more of the “Building on Inclusive Excellence” criteria.
  • Authorization to conduct background checks if selected as a finalist.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and apply novel quantitative methods to test hypotheses for psychological data.
  • Collaborate with researchers across different substantive topics within the department.
  • Teach applied statistics courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, including topics such as ANOVA, regression, generalized linear modeling, measurement, structural equation modeling, multilevel modeling, and longitudinal data analysis.
  • Engage in campus and professional service activities.
  • Direct advanced undergraduate and graduate student research.
  • Potentially secure extramural funding.
