About The Position

West Texas A&M University is seeking an Assistant Professor of Music Therapy to administer the Music Therapy program and teach Music Therapy courses. Depending on qualifications and experience, the role may also include teaching in secondary areas such as Music Theory or Music Education. The position involves teaching Music Therapy at the undergraduate level, administering the clinical experience component for students, and potentially other related courses. Additional responsibilities may include vocal or instrumental performance, conducting, and music theory. The role also requires maintaining an active program of research and publication, and serving on various committees and in leadership positions within community and professional organizations.

Requirements

  • Doctorate (PhD, EdD or DMA) in music therapy or related field
  • MT-BC (Music Therapist-Board Certified) credential
  • Master’s degree in music therapy or related area, with a minimum of transcripted graduate credits equivalent to 12 semester hours or the equivalent of graduate credits in music therapy beyond the undergraduate equivalency requirements
  • At least three years of full-time clinical experience in music therapy or its equivalent in part-time work
  • Meet the minimum qualification standards to serve as an undergraduate faculty member as outlined by the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) found in Section 6.0 of the AMTA document Standards for Education and Clinical Training
  • Ability to creatively engage students in the classroom
  • Ability to teach effectively online and in hybrid classes
  • Demonstrate knowledge of music therapy research
  • Ability to teach and clinically supervise undergraduate students
  • Ability to organize and administer an undergraduate music therapy program
  • Males age 18 through 25 must be properly registered with the Selective Service System
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and maintain work authorization throughout the employment term
