About The Position

Stetson University seeks an outstanding musician and educator for a full-time, nine-month tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor of Music in Violin, starting in August 2027. The successful candidate will bring a proven record of performance excellence and effective teaching experience to Stetson’s undergraduate-only violin studio. Broad knowledge of solo, chamber, and orchestral repertoire and demonstrated potential for effective recruiting are essential. We are especially interested in applicants whose candidacy demonstrates a strong alignment with the recently reaffirmed University Values. Nice To Haves

  • Terminal degree (DMA or PhD) in music is preferred, though candidates with a master’s degree and significant professional achievement, ABD doctoral candidates, and individuals with equivalent international credentials will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching applied violin
  • Mentoring undergraduate music students inside and outside of the studio
  • Actively recruiting a diverse body of talented string players
  • Teaching in additional core music areas related to strings (e.g. String Excerpts or Chamber Music Literature) may be required, depending on the needs of the school and as aligned with the candidate’s expertise
  • Contributing a student-centered immersive experience (equivalent to one course) as a part of the University’s experiential, contemporary, and integrative learning initiative – Hatter Ready
  • Maintain an active national professional profile
  • Collaborate effectively with Stetson string-area faculty members and the orchestra director
  • School and university service on committees is expected of all tenured and tenure-track faculty
  • Contributing to advancing the mission of the school and promoting national prominence for Stetson University
