About The Position

The Department of Biomedical Sciences at Grand Valley State University (GVSU) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Microbiology to begin Fall 2027. Applicants are expected to have a Ph.D. in Microbiology or a closely related field. A successful applicant will be expected to: teach introductory microbiology courses and associated labs; develop an active research program at GVSU which engages undergraduate and graduate students; and be a contributing member of the broader community both inside and beyond the institution. Individuals from all backgrounds, including from underrepresented groups, are encouraged to apply. Successful candidates must be able to effectively engage with students, colleagues, and community members with a broad range of backgrounds and experiences.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Microbiology or closely related field.
• Evidence of training that has prepared the candidate to teach college microbiology classes.
• The ability to develop an active research program at GVSU that engages students.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, such as the ability to interact with others with respect and cultural humility.
• Must have the physical stamina to work long hours and/or more than 5 days per week.

Nice To Haves

• Experience teaching advanced microbiology classes.
• Post-doctoral research experience.

Responsibilities

• Teach introductory microbiology courses and associated labs.

• Focus on teaching, scholarly activity, and/or service equivalent to three contact hours of additional responsibilities, depending on the successful candidate's interests and the department’s needs.
