About The Position

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at San José State University is seeking applicants for a full-time, tenure-track/tenured faculty position at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor beginning in August 2027. The ideal candidate will have a strong record of scholarly achievement, effective teaching, and demonstrated interest in departmental governance, specializing in Statistics, Data Science, or closely related fields. The successful candidate will teach courses and supervise students in statistics, data science, or mathematics at both undergraduate and graduate levels, maintain an active research program potentially involving students, and participate in departmental service. The department has growing undergraduate and graduate programs in statistics and data science, and the new faculty member will contribute to curricular innovation. San José State University, located in Silicon Valley, is an R2 institution committed to advancing equity and fostering inclusive learning environments. The department serves approximately 500 students and has 28 tenure-ladder faculty, supported by part-time instructors and teaching associates. Requirements

Doctoral degree in Statistics, Data Science or a closely related field completed by July 2027.
Demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a socially and economically diverse student population.
A record of ongoing research and a well-developed agenda for future research.
Experience or demonstrated potential for effective teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level.

Responsibilities

Teach a variety of undergraduate and graduate statistics, data science, or mathematics courses.
Maintain a program of scholarly activity.
Work on curriculum and program development.
Supervise graduate students on their research projects in the MS Statistics and MS Data Science programs.
Supervise student teams working on industrial research projects in the CAMCOS program.
Participate in shared governance, including department, college, and university committees and other service assignments.
Maintain a focused and impactful research agenda with peer-reviewed publications.
Organize all classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
Demonstrate awareness and experience in understanding the needs of a diverse student population through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement.
