About The Position

The Department of Clinical Sciences at the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applicants to fill a full-time, 12-month/year appointment as a clinical track assistant professor in large animal emergency surgery. The John Thomas Vaughan Large Animal Teaching Hospital is a state-of-the-art facility equipped for a wide range of diagnostic and surgical procedures, including advanced imaging (MRI, CT, nuclear scintigraphy), laparoscopy, endoscopy, and laser surgery. The hospital also houses specialized wards for equine and food animal patients, an isolation complex, and dedicated surgical suites. The successful candidate will join a team of board-certified specialists in large animal internal medicine, surgery, and theriogenology, with supportive services in ophthalmology, cardiology, diagnostic imaging, small animal emergency and critical care, and neurology. The department offers opportunities for collaboration with faculty, faculty development through a mentoring program, and resources for teaching enhancement. Requirements

DVM or equivalent degree.
Board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS‑LA) or the European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS), OR have completed an ACVS or ECVS residency training program.
Candidates trained through the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care (ACVECC) with large animal surgical experience may be considered.
Qualifications must be met at the time employment begins.
Meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.
Eligibility for faculty veterinary licensure in the State of Alabama is required.

Responsibilities

Participate in teaching and clinical service.
Provide after-hours emergency clinical service.
Provide training to residents, interns, and DVM professional students (approximately 30 weeks per year).
Potentially provide clinical service with daytime service areas in either the equine or food animal hospitals.
Distribute effort between equine and food animal services based on candidate's training and interests (both are expected).
Engage in collaborative research and scholarship with other faculty.
