About The Position

California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) is seeking a tenure-track faculty member for an academic year appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Kinesiology. CSUSM is a rapidly growing campus within the CSU system, committed to providing high-quality education and preparing future leaders. The university emphasizes twenty-first-century learning through hands-on experiences, collaborative learning, cutting-edge technology, and relevant academic programs. The Department of Kinesiology fosters an environment of innovative research, student-centered learning, and community engagement in movement and health, aiming to be a leader in the field. The department is well-resourced with 15 tenure-track faculty, 23 lecturers, and over 1400 students, and boasts strong research areas and excellent facilities. This position is for a scholar passionate about undergraduate and graduate education, student success, and who can contribute through teaching, research, and service, demonstrating a commitment to excellence in all areas.

Requirements

  • An earned doctorate (e.g., PhD, EdD, DPT) in Kinesiology or a closely related field is required (ABD status considered, however, conferral of degree is required at the time of hire).
  • Evidence of successful teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate level.
  • Ability to develop and sustain an independent research program, with evidence of publications in scholarly journals and/or conferences.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with departmental colleagues and contribute to our campus community are essential.

Nice To Haves

  • Expertise and ability to teach both introductory and higher-level kinesiology courses.
  • History of interdisciplinary collaboration and/or community-based research.
  • Evidence of applying to and obtaining external funding.
  • Post doctoral or clinical training.
  • Applicants who can demonstrate intercultural competence with a variety of groups in teaching, research, and service are strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses for all Kinesiology undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Assist with offering other courses in their expertise at the graduate and undergraduate level.
  • Carry out and disseminate research germane to their training and specialization.
  • Serve on graduate thesis committees.
  • Serve on University, College, and Department level committees.
  • Contribute to program and curriculum development.
  • Provide career advising and mentorship to undergraduate and graduate Kinesiology students.
