About The Position

The College of Visual Arts and Design at the University of North Texas invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, Assistant Professor in Interior Design. This is a tenure-track position with a salary commensurate with experience. The successful candidate will possess significant expertise in human-centered design and/or evidence-based design, with a dedication to excellence in teaching, research, and professional practice in Interior Design. Candidates should have expertise informed by current and emerging practices in interior design. They will teach undergraduate and graduate students in the interior design program, integrating professional experience and scholarship with practice-based learning. A successful candidate is expected to develop a teaching portfolio and a creative/scholarly research agenda in interior design, aiming for regional and national recognition. The interior design program at the University of North Texas is accredited by the Council of Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA). The workload will encompass teaching, scholarship, and service, following the college's standard workload for a tenure-track Assistant Professor. Additional responsibilities include mentoring students and contributing service to the communication design program, college, university, and profession. Successful hires will maintain an active program of professional practice, professional development, and scholarship appropriate for a clinical position.

Requirements

  • MS/MA in Interior Design, or M.Arch, or a terminal degree (PhD, MFA, MDES) in Interior Design or a closely related field at time of appointment.
  • Evidence of professional design experience in interior design.

Nice To Haves

  • A record of creative/scholarly work.
  • Professional experience across commercial sectors such as office, healthcare, hospitality design, etc.
  • College-level teaching experience as an instructor of record.
  • A National Council of Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) certificate.
  • Proficiency in computer aided design software.
  • Active engagement in professional networks and professional associations representing interior design and the built environment.
  • Experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate students in the interior design program.
  • Connect professional experience and scholarship with practice-based learning.
  • Develop a teaching portfolio.
  • Develop a creative/scholarly research agenda in interior design supported by regional and national recognition.
  • Mentor students.
