About The Position

The College of Visual Arts and Design at the University of North Texas invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, Assistant Professor in Interior Design. This is a tenure-track position with salary commensurate with experience. The successful candidate will possess significant expertise in human-centered design and/or evidence-based design, coupled with a dedication to excellence in teaching, research, and professional practice within Interior Design. Candidates should be informed by current and emerging practices in interior design and will teach undergraduate and graduate students, integrating professional experience and scholarship with practice-based learning. Expectations include developing a teaching portfolio and a creative/scholarly research agenda in interior design, supported by regional and national recognition. The Interior Design program is accredited by the Council of Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA). Workload will encompass teaching, scholarship, and service, following the college's standard for tenure-track Assistant Professors. Additional responsibilities include mentoring students and contributing service to the communication design program, college, university, and profession. Successful hires are expected to maintain an active program of professional practice, professional development, and scholarship suitable for a clinical position.

Requirements

  • MS/MA in Interior Design, or M.Arch, or a terminal degree (PhD, MFA, MDES) in Interior Design or a closely related field at time of appointment.
  • Evidence of professional design experience in interior design.

  • A record of creative/scholarly work.
  • Professional experience across commercial sectors such as office, healthcare, hospitality design, etc.
  • College-level teaching experience as an instructor of record.
  • A National Council of Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) certificate.
  • Proficiency in computer aided design software.
  • Active engagement in professional networks and professional associations representing interior design and the built environment.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate students in the interior design program.
