About The Position

The School of Interior Design at Louisiana State University invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning August 2027. The school seeks an emerging scholar, educator, and/or practitioner whose work advances interior design and contributes to its commitment to human health and well-being, environmental stewardship, and social responsibility. The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate and graduate curricula through innovative design studios, core courses integrating interior design with specialized areas of knowledge, and electives reflecting the candidate’s expertise. The typical teaching assignment is one 6-credit-hour design studio and one 3-credit-hour core course or elective each semester, normally totaling two courses per semester and four per academic year. Candidates with graduate-level teaching experience may contribute to the Master of Science in Interior Design program. Candidates with a Ph.D. may also have opportunities to participate in the College of Art & Design’s interdisciplinary, multi-track Doctor of Design program. The position includes teaching (60%), productive scholarly research and/or creative activity (30%), and service to the college, university, and profession (10%). The school particularly welcomes expertise that complements or expands its strengths in healthcare and evidence-based design, human behavior and performance, environmental and social sustainability, lighting and environmental systems, emerging technologies, design research, and related areas. The School of Interior Design offers a professional, CIDA- and NASAD-accredited Bachelor of Interior Design, a Minor in Interior Design, and a post-professional, dual-track Master of Science in Interior Design. It supports interdisciplinary inquiry and collaboration across the College of Art & Design and the broader university. The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary college community and an R1 research university in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The appointment is contingent on a satisfactory pre-employment background check. Candidates must have valid U.S. work authorization at hire and maintain it throughout employment.
