About The Position

The School of Lifelong Learning (SLL) in the College of Education and Human Development is seeking applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Human Resource Development (HRD). We welcome applicants whose teaching, research, service, grant activity, and other scholarly or civic activities demonstrate alignment with the expansion and development of the Professional Interdisciplinary Studies degree program and the growth of the Human Resource Development Concentration. The faculty, staff, and students in the School of Lifelong Learning are seeking innovative, ambitious, and creative people who are passionate about developing human resources, strengthening the connections between college coursework and career placement, expanding the digital literacy/21st-century workforce competencies of nontraditional students, and elevating the role of Jackson State University as a site of positive change in the realm of adult higher education, professional development, and community engagement. We are seeking collaborative new team members who conduct (and actively engage undergraduate students in conducting) high-quality research/scholarship. Additionally, we seek candidates who will be able to redesign and teach rigorous in-person and fully online undergraduate-level courses, non-credit seminars, and workshops for JSU students and community members. Candidates must submit an online application, Curriculum Vita (Dissertation title listed), a Letter of Application that details the applicant's research and scholarly agenda, teaching interests, and commitment to advising; A teaching philosophy; Unofficial transcripts; and letters of reference (to be provided if the applicant advances to the interview stage).

Requirements

  • Terminal degree, Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Human Resource Development, Adult Education, Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Workforce Development or a closely related field of study at the time of appointment. ABD who successfully defends their dissertation at the time of application is welcome.
  • Effective higher education teaching related to HRD.
  • A record of or a strong potential for excellence in research related to adult education, training and development, organizational development, and/or career development.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience delivering online instruction to undergraduates and graduate students.
  • A record of advising non-traditional adult learners, transfer students, etc. Demonstrate great communication skills and commitment to high quality service to students and the community.
  • Academic research (publications and/or grants) in areas: a) Adult education and career transitions b) Recruitment and Retention of Non-traditional/Adult Learners c) The role of AI in the future of HRD and/or Adult Higher Education d) The use of emerging technology to increase the retention and graduation of adult learners in higher education.
  • Experience in program redesign and development.
  • APTD, CPLP, CPT, CFT, PHR, SPHR, or other related certified professional a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a 4-4 course load for Fall and Spring sessions.
  • Advise non-traditional adult learners, transfer students, etc.
  • Actively engage in recruitment and retention, program assessment and evaluations, and program development.
  • Research, publish and seek funding.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
