About The Position

California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Electrical Engineering, starting Fall 2027. The successful candidate will contribute to an undergraduate-centered, pedagogically innovative, modern Electrical Engineering degree program. Applications from scholars in all areas of electrical engineering are encouraged. Candidates whose research aligns with quantum science and technology may be eligible for enhanced start-up support as part of the University's strategic investment in quantum-related fields and interdisciplinary research. The role supports CSUSM’s teacher-scholar model, with an emphasis on undergraduate teaching and involving students in research. The department is a fast-growing program with state-of-the-art laboratories, ABET accreditation, and close relations with local industry. A new 75,000-square-foot Integrated Science and Engineering building, including engineering laboratories, is expected to open in 2027. The position includes a start-up package with options for summer salary and/or a reduced teaching load during the first year. The anticipated hiring salary is $9,500–$10,334 per month; the CSU classification salary range is $6,221–$13,224 per month. The successful applicant must have a B.S. in Electrical or Computer Engineering and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field by the appointment date. Applicants with ABD status may be considered, but the doctoral degree must be conferred by the hire date. Candidates must demonstrate teaching excellence, a record of published research commensurate with experience, the ability to develop and sustain a research program leading to original peer-reviewed publications, and effective communication and collaboration skills with colleagues and students from varied backgrounds and educational pathways. Application materials include a cover letter addressing the minimum and preferred qualifications, a curriculum vitae with three professional references, a teaching philosophy statement of up to two pages, a description of research accomplishments and future goals of up to two pages, representative publications and works in progress, and copies of graduate-level transcripts. Two relevant recent journal publications may be requested by the Search Committee. Application review begins November 30, 2026, and continues until the position is filled. Working in California is a condition of employment; the CSU does not hire employees to perform CSU-related work outside California. Appointment is contingent on successful employment, education, reference, and criminal-record checks.
