About The Position

Winona State University is seeking an Assistant Professor of Data Science or Statistics to teach a variety of data science and statistics courses, primarily in-person. The role involves instructing courses in varied locations, times, and media as needed by the department and university. The position requires engagement in scholarly research or creative achievement to advance knowledge in data science or statistics, and a commitment to continuing professional development to enhance teaching abilities. Responsibilities include contributing to student growth and development through advising, providing service to the university and community, and supporting Winona State University's mission. The professor will teach using an innovative and modern curriculum, contribute to its improvement, supervise capstone experiences, and foster connections with industry partners.

Requirements

  • Ph.D in Data Science, Statistics, or Biostatistics with an anticipated completion date before August 2027.
  • Experience teaching an undergraduate data science or statistics course as the primary instructor or as a teaching assistant.
  • The successful candidate must be able to lawfully accept employment in the United States by the day employment begins.

  • Teach a variety of data science and statistics courses primarily in an in-person format.
  • Instruct courses in varied locations, at varied times, and via various media commensurate with department and university needs.
  • Engage in scholarly research or creative achievement to enhance knowledge of data science or statistics.
  • Provide evidence of continuing preparation and study in the field to enhance teaching abilities.
  • Contribute to student growth and development including student advising.
  • Provide service to the university and community including the program, the department, the college, the university, and the greater community.
  • Support Winona State University's mission to enhance the intellectual, social, cultural, and economic vitality of the people and communities we serve.
  • Teach courses using an innovative and modern curriculum.
  • Contribute to the continued improvement of the curriculum in data science and statistics.
  • Supervise capstone experiences, e.g. student research projects, internships, etc.
  • Make connections with industry partners, recruit students, develop workshops, and promote our disciplines to high school students.
