About The Position

The Division of Dance at Texas Woman's University is seeking a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Dance to begin in August 2027. The ideal candidate will hold a Ph.D. in dance or a related field and possess a strong background in physical practice, creative process, and theoretical inquiry. This role involves teaching across graduate and undergraduate programs, including in-studio dance, creative practice, and dance theory in Ph.D. seminars. The university is particularly interested in candidates who can integrate practice and theory, engage in practice-as-research, and have experience in dance-making. A commitment to diverse perspectives in dance, including but not limited to African Diasporic, Latinx, Indigenous, Middle-Eastern, Asian, Ballet, or Contemporary forms, is highly valued. Applicants should have demonstrated teaching experience, a strong scholarly record, and the potential for service commensurate with the assistant professor rank in an accredited dance program. Preferred teaching areas include pedagogy, contemporary dance practices, dance studies, somatics, dance making, and interdisciplinary studies. An active research agenda with a history of regional and national presentations, performances, or publications is expected, as is the ability to engage in collaborative service and work with a diverse student body.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in dance or a closely related field.
• Actively engaged in a combination of physical practice, creative process, and theoretical inquiry.
• Teaching experience.
• Distinct scholarship and potential to build a service record commensurate with appointment at the rank of assistant professor in an accredited dance program.
• An active research agenda with a record of regional and national presentations, performances or publications.
• Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse body of students.

Responsibilities

• Teaching across all Division programs, including doctoral seminars and studio practice at all levels (B.A., M.A., M.F.A., Ph.D.).
• Advising doctoral and master’s students.
• Participating in shared governance through committee service.
• Making substantive contributions to the growth and development of TWU Division of Dance project initiatives.
• Scholarly productivity in the form of presentations/performances in national and/or international forums.
